The project designated Renaissance and Mannerist stucco work in Bohemia and Moravia was started in 2018 within the framework of the Czech Ministry of Culture NAKI programme (a programme aimed at supporting applied research and development into national and cultural identity). Its central aim is to undertake a detailed study of Renaissance and Mannerist stucco work from the middle of the 16th century up to 1620 which was created within the boundaries of today's Czech Republic, a topic which, within the framework of cultural heritage protection and the practice of art and craft, is presently vastly neglected. The aim is to deal with the given issue from all aspects through interdisciplinary research based on cooperation between professionals in human sciences, heritage care experts and restorers together with the support of the scientific sector. The cataloguing of artistically valuable stucco work in the Czech Republic will be the starting point for a synthetic processing of the art-historical and technological development of stucco work within the area of the Czech Republic and also for enabling such work to be put into a central European context.

Information acquired through analysis of sources and literature, older restoration documentation, photographs and other records will be complemented with knowledge acquired through in-situ research and will help to document interventions into the stucco work under investigation and its repairs. The participation of restorers and technologists will be beneficial in providing additional information concerning the execution of the stucco work as regards its art, craftsmanship and material composition, thanks to which it will be possible to create copies of and repair stucco work using historically adequate materials.
